Planning the perfect camping trip

Take advantage of the cooler weather and get out there

With the intense heat of summer behind us, it’s a great time to go camping. Chilly evenings, perfect hiking weather and the chance to sit under the stars make it a must-do for any UAE resident. Our guide on preparing for your trip, camping essentials and camping locations has got you covered.

So you’re packed and ready to go, but have you got everything you need? We take a look at how to have a camping experience that’s memorable for all the right reasons.

1. Let’s prepare for your trip!

Before you hit the road, make sure you’re covered on and off it! Many of the UAE and Oman’s best campsites are off the beaten track. Luckily RSA Car Insurance covers you for off-road adventures.

And while you’re busy being excited about your camping trip, don’t forget about the house you’re leaving behind. If your home insurance is up to date, you don’t need to worry about water leaks or other unforeseen events while you’re away.

2. Don’t forget those camping essentials

Camping is always less stressful when you only take what you need, and thankfully there’s lots of handy equipment and gadgets out there to ensure you can pack light, stay comfortable and leave the stress of the city behind. Here are the basics:

Tent
Of course, no self-respecting adventurer would go camping without a tent, but the right sort of tent can make all the difference. Pop-up tents that can be erected in minutes need barely any instruction and leave more time for you to enjoy the great outdoors.

First-aid kit
No one anticipates an accident, but it’s always better to be prepared for bumps, sprains and sunburn – especially when you’re out in the desert.

Flashlight
Hands-free is best, so you can find what you’re looking for without holding a heavy light.

Barbecue
Nothing beats grilling outside with friends and family. Make sure you take a BBQ big enough with plenty of lighter fluid to get that charcoal burning

Water
The average adult needs over 3.5 litres of water per day and that’s just to stay hydrated, not taking into account brushing teeth, tea making or washing!

3. But where are you going to go?!

You’d be surprised how easy it is to escape the city, and there’s a lot more to see than just sand!

Liwa Oasis, Abu Dhabi
Liwa, otherwise known as the Empty Quarter, is known for its vast rolling dunes and beautiful, silent landscapes. It’s the ideal place to get away from the hustle and bustle of city life for a starlit evening to remember.

Lahbab, Fossil Rock, Hatta
The amazing rock formations are just made for Instagram posts, and are the jewel in the crown of the red rolling sands that surround them. Because it’s an easy destination for beginners to reach, you don’t need to worry about getting stuck in the sand either.

Al Qudra
How about camping on a reserve of manmade lakes that’s home to hundreds of birds? Al Qudra has wonderful camping spots that you can get to without needing a 4x4. The best thing? This peaceful haven for wildlife is only 25 minutes’ drive from Dubai.
